LGBTQIA+ Officer Bendigo

Reports To: Bendigo Region Coordinator
Status: Casual

The purpose of the LGBTQIA+ Officer role is to provide on-site support, hosting, peer-support and administration of Different Journeys LGBTQIA+ supports and activities, including participating in preparation and post-event procedures.

The events may include:

  • Teen Events
  • Adult events
  • Swim and sporting events
  • Carer and Family events
  • Carer Information nights
  • Dinner events
  • Other events, as our calendar grows!

The role includes wearing Different Journeys’ uniform, and travel to different event locations across Bendigo region. Travel time to and from event locations is not considered to be work hours

Responsibilities

  1. Participate in pre-event training, time keeping, briefing and other activities, including contributing to event design and being a voice for the LGBTQIA+ autistic community.
  2. Clearly communicate your availability, needs and preferences, and with as much notice as possible.
  3. Carry out specific events tasks allocated to you by the Bendigo Region Coordinator, which may include greeting guests, liaising with venues or other stakeholders, providing particular advice or services, or anything else appropriate to your role and your lived experience.
  4. During events, proactively identify and act upon opportunities to support our LGBTQIA+ guests to feel comfortable, welcome and included at Different Journeys events, including where you observe a safety or wellbeing risk.
  5. Participate in post-event procedures, which may include incident reporting, providing feedback for post-event reports, identifying any barriers or anything else appropriate to your role and your lived experience.

Conditions

This role is aligned with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award (MA000100).

The position is subject to receipt of external funding, and completion of a national police check and Working with Children check.

Peer Support Coordinator

The Peer Support Coordinator is responsible for supporting our Carer Peer Support team with administration and coordination of their work, including tasks relating to data and reporting, carers’ cuppas, individual peer support, rostering and HR. The Peer Support Coordinator understands and cares about carers, valuing privacy, lived experience, teamwork and inclusion. The Peer Support Coordinator will work to ensure Different Journeys’ functions effectively and efficiently while achieving its objectives and upholding its values.    

Responsibilities

  1. Enter data into Salesforce for all Peer Support events and programs as directed, including identifying challenges, suggesting improvements and collaborating with other administrators
  2. Carry out ad hoc research, stakeholder communication and administration tasks allocated by the Peer Support team leaders
  3. Collaborate with team members to deliver their administration requirements in an effective, efficient manner, including supporting them with case management, administration, scheduling, technical support and anything else that is related to your role
  4. Provide proofing, formatting, filing, phone, email and other administrative supports as required
  5. Contribute to discussions and improvements around compliance, safety, process improvement and culture within the Peer Support team
  6. Support the team with events and carers’ cuppas through attendance, emails, rostering, recordkeeping and data procedures, feedback, venue liaison and evaluation reports
  7. Be part of Different Journeys’ wider team, working together to coordinate and improve administrative procedures throughout our organisation
  8. Other duties as directed by management

 

Key Skills and Experience

  1. Accurate written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail
  2. Highly motivated, proactive and persistent
  3. Very good time management, prioritisation and organisational skills, especially for completion of recurring daily tasks
  4. Dedication to listening and learning
  5. Good collaboration skills and teamwork approach
  6. Understand and respects others’ rights, especially privacy, and our processes to support these rights
  7. Proficient at using technology for administration, ideally with knowledge or willingness to learn Salesforce, Google suite, Excel and other tools
  8. Lived experience with caring or autism, and/or an understanding of the for-purpose sector, will both be highly regarded.

Fill out the Expression of Interest form below, telling us why you would like this position and we will call you to talk about the role. If this role is suitable, we will ask you to complete a Police Check and Working with Children Check. You will then be invited to attend one of our events as a guest to make sure you enjoy it. If all is successful, we will give you an Agreement to sign and you will receive your Position Description, training, ongoing supervision and support as part of our Events Team.
