Hi there I’m Anil. I am a human being who embraces people for whoever they are. I am a carer of an autistic individual and a carer peer support officer at Different Journeys. I like working for DJs because I can be myself and I don’t have to put on any kind of mask. I am respected by all my colleagues and they embrace me for who I am and the diversity that I bring with me. The carer support work is very rewarding, to be able to use my lived experiences and walk alongside carers in their journey. I find it best to use a strengths-based approach in an environment that promotes mutuality for the carers and me, improving the quality of life for our carers.
Different Journeys would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the different lands on which we meet today. We respect all Aboriginal Elders past and present We aim to collaborate with our Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander friends in the autistic community to connect, empower and support each other and exchange isolation, prejudice and ignorance with connections, hope and community. We acknowledge that the connection to autism and lived experience is our common ground. We acknowledge, respect and maintain that our custodians have cultivated these lands and we continue to learn together.
